In previous blogs, I had mentioned the importance of props in my film opening, so in this blog I will be focusing on that!
The Drugs
The drugs are the most essential prop to properly translating the idea of substance abuse to the audience. To do this, we will get a tiny plastic bag and put salt in it to really make it look realistic. This prop will be used when Camila is seen packing up things in her duffle bag, then there will be a main focus on this little bag. There's supposed to be some type of surreal and questioning moment not only for the audience but for the character as well.
Lighting
As for the lighting, it will be used as a way for the audience to get a feel for what the mood is. Dimmer lighting is film is usually used to represent something off or to build anticipation. This will also help with the contrasting effect of how light and happy the beginning of the film opening will be vs. the end of the film opening where the audience is questioning what is about to unfold.
For the opening scene when Camila is at cheer practice, I really wanted to focus on the mise-en-scene elements. We plan on opening the film with her stepping her foot down in her cheer shoes as a giveaway to where she is at and what she is doing.
